Residential Trip 2014 - Tuesday

Good Morning everyone!  It's a blustery and wet start to the day here at Folly Farm.  Most children are awake now and getting ready for the day.  We had a very quiet night with the children falling asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows.  So now they are full of energy for the day ahead!

This morning a small number of eager walkers set off for a thirty minute early morning walk returning for breakfast and lunch-making at 8.00am.

We checked our humane traps for little visitors and found a single wood-mouse from 12 traps. Not exactly Bear Grylls.

Next off to Bristol Harbour to visit the 'SS Great Britain'. After a tour of the outside and then inside we were off for lunch overlooking the harbour in Bristol. Because of the windy conditions the trip on 'The Matthew' was cancelled. We quickly organised an alternative visit and so we walked to the 'At Bristol' Planetarium and Science Museum which was an excellent experience with hands-on activities for both children and adults.

After our evening meal we went out again for another night-time walk to make the most of a lovely clear night to see if we could identify the night sky from the lessons in the Planetarium. This culminated in some of the children seeing not one but two shooting stars!

So now it's off to bed for everyone to re-charge our batteries - children and adults alike.

  1. Seems as if you've had better weather than us today and you packed a lot in. Mrs Garnham and Mrs Brett look as if they have eaten well or did they shrink in the rain?
